In the Fall Troop 1248 took a memorable group trip to NYC to see the Tony Award winning show "In The Heights" with their hard earned cookie profits. They were invited on stage for a tour & to meet the cast. The fun continued when they went to the famous John's pizzeria for dinner.
Julia Hamwi went back stage recently to hand deliver a basket full of Girl Scout cookies & a signed Troop picture to show their appreciation.

Car Sense - Bayshore Auto Service
Holmdel Cadette Troop # 457 had the opportunity to learn some Car Sense when Bayshore Auto Service in Keyport NJ held a badge workshop night. They learned all about the parts under a car like a catalytic converter and what and where all the fluids are. They had the chance to change a tire, oil, and filter. They learned environmental steps now taken in the auto repair business and how Bayshore Auto Service converts it's used oil into a renewable heat source for the building. The girls also learned a few car tips like leaving your windshield wipers up off the car during freezing rain and snow so they won't stick to your windshield and shorten the life of your wipers.

Red Bank Crop Walk

One rainy Friday evening in May of 2008, six Brownies and some of their moms went to Ronald McDonald House in Long Branch, NJ to donate the pop-tabs that they had been collecting for two years and have a tour of the facility. Camitha S. Whipple, the house manager was a wonderful tour guide. She answered all of the girls' many questions.
The Ronald McDonald House provides a "home away from home" for the families of seriously ill children undergoing medical treatment in area hospitals. The House offers a safe, comfortable, supportive haven for the entire family during a time of uncertainty, stress, and difficulty.
We were also given ideas and suggestions as to how our Girl Scouts could help Ronald McDonald House. They can offer hands-on meaningful involvment with the children and families by:
- Sponsoring a family
- Sponsoring a room
- Preparing dinner for guest families
- Collecting pop-tops ( Ronald McDonald House earns seventy cents a pound for the pop-tops which goes for cancer research)
- Scheduling a Speaker's Bureau Presentation
- Providing their cupboards with extra food
A fun and educational time was had by all. And I got to be a Brownie for a night.

On Friday, November 2, 2007, over two hundred girls in various Girl Scout troops ranging from Daisy to Cadettes participated in Holmdel's annual service unit project and celebrated Juliette Low's belated birthday. The girls, their leaders, and parents successfully completed making between 450-500 stuffed Bandana Pillows of which 200 to 300 of them will be donated to the Vineland Developmental Center, Sunrise Assisted Living Facility, and Bayshore Seniors, to name just a few.
Michael's in Holmdel was supportive in our endeavors by selling the Holmdel Service Unit 150 bags of polyfil at a huge discount. Michael's and their staff were super co-operative and helpful. Thank-you Michael's of Holmdel.
Commerce Bank gave us lollipops to put in with the pillows. We thank them, as well for all of the support that they have given us over the years.
All of the girls, their parents and leaders did a wonderful job in making this project a huge success.
Thank you everyone for your support and help. We wish you all a very healthy and happy holiday season.
